Tips and Tricks for the IBPS PO Quantitative Aptitude


IBPS carry out common written examination for the post of PO all over India from time to time. There are four sections in this paper these are:
  1. General English
  2. Quantitative Aptitude
  3. Logical Reasoning
  4. General Awareness and Computer Awareness
  1. It is generally observed that Quantitative Aptitude section of IBPS PO is one of the difficult sections of the exam. Most of the problems are a tricky and complex to solve. This section requires speed, accuracy and calculation power. The aspirants are advised to proceed with this section in a tactical way. The calculative study plan should be followed to do extremely well in this section. One should be well versed with the tricks and shortcuts as this section is time-consuming and complex problems are there to solve.

  1. Recognize the basics of Mathematics: While making the study plan to prepare for quantitative section one needs to understand thoroughly the basics of Mathematics. If you are weak in multiplication or division or in any basic mathematical operation, it is advisable to the prepare a study plan for that, learn multiplication technique, memorize multiplication table, learn basic mathematical operations division, addition subtraction, Simplification technique and Basic mathematical formulas up to class ten level basic mathematics.
  2. Learn Basic Formulas and Identities: One of the important aspects of Quantitative Aptitude preparation is to learn and memorize all the formulas of secondary level mathematics such as Pythagoras theorems, Basic trigonometric formulas, angle values and all the formulas available up to class tenth level mathematics. The best technique to memorize formulas and identities is to make a chart and hang anywhere in the study room or study table. One more way to memorize the formulas is to write in rough as much as you can.
  3. Prepare Marks Distribution Chart: There are a lot of topics in Quantitative Aptitude section assigned for IBPS PO examination. All these topics are not equally important. Every year, the distribution of topics changes and so does the marks distribution. In order to understand the pattern of the paper, it is better to download all the previous year question papers and make a mark distribution chart and do analysis topic wise and prepare a priority flow chart for topic wise study.
  4. Follow good study book or material: Exam preparation is incomplete without good study book or material, therefore, it is better to buy a good study material or book to guide you the various techniques and shortcuts to solve the questions.
  5. Note down the Shortcut Tricks: There are certain complex topics which take a lot of time for solving the questions. It is highly recommended for the aspirants to learn shortcut tricks to solve the lengthy questions and make a note of it on a separate notebook  It will be very helpful to give a quick revision before the final revision of the examination.
  6. Identify Strong and weak topics: Practice each and every topic thoroughly from the syllabus mentioned and identify your strengths and weaknesses. Accordingly, make a study plan to pay more attention to overcome the weak areas.
  7. Maintain regular and smart timetable: One of the significant factors of preparation is to make and to maintain a smart timetable. Plan a daily study time for Quantitative Aptitude section. Make it a habit of revising basic formulas daily as a recap of the previous day learning. It is not possible to solve mathematics questions without using formulas and tables, it is better to give time to memorize them thoroughly before sitting down for practice.
  8. Practice the formulas and shortcuts to the maximum: The key constituent to study Quantitative Aptitude section is to practice as much as possible. The more you practice the more you will learn the formulas, shortcut tricks. These are some of the most important preparation tips to follow while preparing for the most complex section of IBPS PO Exam.
