Exam pattern and syllabus of SSC CHSL Descriptive Paper 2017-18

Staff Selection Commission recently released a notification for Tier 1 Exam of SSC CHSL. Tier 1 exam is scheduled in the month of March 2018. This exam is open for undergraduates therefore the difficulty level is low. One who prepares with dedication and interest is sure to crack Tier I of SSC CHSL Exam 2017-18.  The second leg of the SSC CHSL is Tier II, which is a descriptive exam. Those who crack Tier 1 can appear for Tier 2 and further those who clear Tier 2 can sit for Tier 3 which is a skill test.

In order to qualify SSC CHSL 2017-18 tier I, it is easy but one needs a deep analysis of Descriptive Paper which is Tier 2. Let us discuss the syllabus and paper pattern so that in case you qualify for Tier 2 you should know the exam pattern.

Besides knowing the exam pattern and syllabus of Tier 2, the time given between the Tier 1 exam result and the Tier 2 exam is less i.e. the result expected for Tier 1 is in the month of May-June 2018 and the probable date of examination for Tier 2 is July 2018. Therefore, it is advisable to prepare for Tier 2 simultaneously when you are preparing for Tier 1.

Syllabus for SSC CHSL Tier II Exam / Descriptive Paper

The Descriptive paper is a comprehensive written exam where a candidate is allowed to choose any medium to write the exam, i.e. English or Hindi. The mode of this exam is pen and paper.  

The questions asked in the Descriptive exam are of two types:
  1. Essay Writing
  2. Letter or Application Writing
Let us discuss some tips to attempt these type of questions.
  1. There is a word limit set for these questions and one need not cross the limit or write less than the word limit given in the question.
Below is given the official word limit set for Essay\ and Letter writing

Points to be noted are: 
  • The minimum marks to qualify the descriptive paper will be 33%.
  • The marks of the descriptive paper will be incorporated with Tier I exam to make the merit list of successful candidates.
  • The candidates who are visually handicapped. Orthopedically handicapped or any other disability is granted 20 minutes per hour extra to write the exam.
These are some of the important features and points to be taken care of while preparing for a descriptive paper of SSC CHSL Tier 2.
