How English language be prepared for SSC CGL Exam?

English language is a very significant section for all Government job exams such as IBPS PO, SSC CGL etc. English is counted as the essential communication skill to acquire a respectable place in the organization therefore it is a must to enrich English speaking, vocabulary and writing skills.  Hence, it is necessary to prepare and learn English grammar, vocabulary, phrases and creativity to make yourself noticeable among the wide-ranging crowd.

There are some effective ways to develop English skills not only for Government sector exams preparation but also for   a variety of reasons.
  1. First step towards improvement in English language is to start reading a good newspaper. The Hindu is an ideal option as it covers all type of topics which are visibly seen in almost all the government exams especially in English GK Section. This practice will improve your English grammar, vocabulary, creative skills and general awareness. It will boost your confidence and give you hints to forward your views and the phrases to use frequently these days. It will enable you to cover more than 10–20 % of your English preparation for competitive exams.
  2. Buy a comprehensive English language book and always keep it at your disposal. It should have a complete guide for English asked in all competitive exams. It must include sufficient practice questions. In case you do not get time to read the entire chapter then makes some quick notes of rules mentioned. These general English rules will make you able to solve 70–80 % questions generally asked in the exam. Make notes and revise daily and practice questions based on rules. Take maximum of Spot the error exercises to master the rules.
  3. Buy a pocket dictionary or download Oxford Dictionary app from Google Play on your mobile and refer it quiet often. Oxford is best and reliable dictionary to refer for all type of vocabulary building. Always keep it aside while reading newspaper. It will give you a surprised improvement in your vocabulary skills in just a month. This will help you to learn Antonym , Synonym , reading comprehension, one word type questions either directly or indirectly.
  4. Make an effective use of your smart phone and Download a dictionary app and a grammar app. Refer it quiet often in your leisure hours to find and improve your vocabulary.
  5. Develop a habit of reading a novel if you have time or at least an hour a day. Try reading a fiction novel it is fun and you will become more creative, imaginary and knowledge wise rich. In you read a non-fiction one, you will enrich yourself with loads of facts and knowledge along with improved English. Thus keep reading all type of novels to improve effectively in the English language.
  6. You can also try using some unconventional ways to learn and master the language by making a chart of all English rules and paste it on a wall in your study room. It will help you an easy way to revise them even while having your food. Similarly for Direct-Indirect narration, Active- Passive rules, difficult vocabulary, Phrasal verbs, Idioms etc.
