Which Competitive Exam is Easier to Crack – SSC CGL or SBI PO?

It’s one of the most perplexing as well as intriguing question. SSC CGL exam have become while SBI PO is becoming tougher year by year. It is because every year, SBI PO exam comes out with different exam pattern, where candidates have to confront questions in uncharacteristic format, complex language etc. As far as content and study material is concerned, the world of internet and market is flooded with abundance of video courses, e-books, mock tests etc. It has also triggered the level of awareness among candidates resulting in high competition and rise in cut-offs for both the exams.

The competition is tougher in SSC CGL than SBI PO exams. Even the candidates who got selected as SBI PO are now preparing for SSC CGL exam. From past experiences of successful candidates, it has been experienced that SBI PO is easier to crack than SSC CGL exam, if you have 3 to 4 months of exam preparation. So, let’s discuss in detail –Why SSC CGL is more difficult to crack than SBI PO exam?

The most basic reason is the syllabus of SSC CGL exam is more elaborate and wide-spread than SBI PO exam. Let’s discuss it section-wise:-

1) Quantitative Aptitude
In SBI PO exam, the candidates have to master only Arithmetic and Data Interpretation (DI) properly to score well. DI can be mastered by understanding and practicing 3 topics (Ratio, Average and Percentage) only. In Mains exam, around 20-25 questions are asked from DI section while rest of them are from Arithmetic. So, you can cover the syllabus of Quant section in lesser time and still can qualify.

In SSC CGL exam, the competition is high and syllabus is also vast. The only way of qualifying it is to score handsomely in this section. Besides Arithmetic and DI, candidates are required to have proficiency in Advanced Mathematics which has range of topics which requires logical ability and good grasping power by students. It requires Herculean effort from candidates to solve maximum complex looking questions in limited time. It requires continuous and rigorous hard work of around 6 months where students are required to learn basics properly and practice hard in solving maximum questions in restricted time.

2) English
The English section in SBI PO is relatively easier, if you are good in Reading Comprehension section. It is believed that around 80% of the question paper is a test of your reading and comprehension abilities. You are only required to develop habit of reading English newspapers, books, magazine etc on daily basis. It will develop a good basic vocabulary which will also be able to solve questions based on Synonyms-Antonyms, Para Jumbles, Cloze Test etc.

In SSC CGL exam, you have to master vocabulary and grammar section properly otherwise you will struggle on the exam day. In the vocabulary section, you will be tested largely in idioms and phrases, one word substitution, fill in the blanks, synonyms-antonyms, and sentence or phrase improvement. In English Grammar section, the challenging questions will be from Active-Passive voice, Direct-Indirect speech, sentence correction etc. It’s important to learn the basics properly and mugging up will not solve any purpose. Like Quant section, this section too will require quality studying hours from you and so prepare it well.

3) General Awareness and General Intelligence and Reasoning
In SSC CGL, the syllabus is wider and requires more practice and good grasping power of concepts. In SBI PO exam, you have to cover only current topics of last 3 to 6 months with some knowledge of Static GK. The entire syllabus can be easily covered in a month. In SSC CGL exam, the questions can come from like General Science, History, Geography, Current Affairs, Indian Polity and miscellaneous topics. The syllabus is so vast that it is almost impossible to cover the entire syllabus in time.

After doing a comparative analysis, it becomes clearer that SSC CGL exam is tougher competitive exam than SBI PO exam. It’s important to organize a preparation strategy and study regularly for months to crack these exams.

All the Best!!!
