Why SSC CHSL exam is a big challenge? Examine Important Tips

Why SSC CHSL is the most popular competitive exam in India? The answer is that it offers good job opportunities to millions of candidates and with a minimum eligibility of Class 12th pass. It’s true that it is the most popular and most awaited exam but still cracking a SSC CHSL exam is a big challenge.
After looking at the syllabus, SSC CHSL might look like tough paper but there is lot of factors and aspects that makes it one of the most challenging competitive exams. Let us discuss it step by step:-
  1. Very big competition
In SSC CHSL 2017-18 exams, the number of candidates appearing in the exam was around 30 million. The figures increases every year and so it if increases exponentially then we can expect even a tougher question paper on the examination day. In SSC CHSL 2018-19 exams, the total numbers of vacancies are around 3259 and for which 30 million plus candidates will compete then the success rate will be around 0.11%, which is considerably low. Despite all hard work and efforts, the candidates have to clear sectional as well as cutoff marks to clear the examination.
  1. Long Process of Selection
For qualifying in this competitive exam, the candidates have to clear 3 Tiers of exam and the final merit list will be decided on it. Tier-I is a preliminary exam which is of objective type test where 100 MCQs are to be answered in 1 hour (60 minutes). Tier-II is a descriptive test and Tier-III is a computer proficiency test. This long process of selection tests your patience, determination and competitiveness at different levels of selection.
  1. Huge Syllabus to Cover
The subjects of SSC CHSL exam comprise of four subjects namely Quantitative Aptitude, Reasoning Ability, English Language and General Awareness. The topics covered in them demands lots of analytical, logical and conceptual knowledge from the candidates. The most significant aspect is that the syllabus is widespread and elaborate and it looks difficult at once to complete it in couple of months. It can perplex students to greatest extent but proper strategy can simplify it to a larger extent. There is huge number of candidates who fails in their first attempts as they could not decide the proper strategy or way of preparing all topics in time. You should first prioritize topics from examination point of view and then prepare it seriously.
  1. Demands lot of accuracy and speed
Every student should note carefully that SSC CHSL has huge cutoffs and it implies that you have to be accomplished with the syllabus of the paper. In SSC CHSL 2017-18, the cutoff for General Category was 127 which imply that you should have at least 64 accurate attempts to crack the exam. Secondly, you are given just one hour (60 minutes) to solve 100 MCQs in Tier-I exam, which is tremendously challenging. There is also negative marking in the exam and so don’t do wild guess work in answering questions. This examination does not only demand accuracy but also demand good speed of answering questions. So, we would advise to be thorough with basics and attempt maximum mock tests to prosper your chances in the exam.
  1. Good Mental Awareness is required
Commonly speaking, candidates take the General Awareness section very casually and undermine its importance. It is the most scoring section but you have to smartly prepare it. You should be mentally aware and should develop habit of reading English newspapers, informative websites and magazines regularly to add to your knowledge.

To cut a long story short, SSC CHSL is not simple as it looks and it’s neither complicated to crack, if prepared smartly with good preparation strategy.
All the Best!!!
